| MYSTIC MOON STANDARD SCHNAUZERS PUPPY BUYER BEWARE, PUPPY CONTRACTS, WHICH SHOW OR PET? |
| CAVEAT EMPTOR or Buyer Beware
Do your homework before purchasing a Standard Schnauzer or any Puppy. This is a big decision, a big investment monetarily and emotionally. You want a life long companion not a headache or heartache. Make sure you are ready for this commitment . The cost of buying a puppy is just the start as the 1st year of a puppy like a crate, toys, immunization vet cost, food, grooming, puppy classes can cost up to $1,200.00, the annual expense of a dog is about $800.00 --$900.00 that is for food/grooming/vet. Consider ! Who will be home 18-24 hours a day to raise a puppy? Standard Schnauzers nor any puppy should not be left alone or in a crate for more then 4 hours a day it is simply not fair. They are active, intelligent dogs they need social interaction and lot's of exercise why get a puppy if you are gone 9 hours a day and do not have enough time to devote to raising a puppy. Be fair are you ready for a puppy can you provide what it needs to be happy mentally and physically. Things to beware and or question * Shipping Puppies without meeting the breeder in person. * Never meeting the Breeder this is the perfect buyer for puppy mills, they take your money and ship you a puppy. You have know idea of the health or what the parents look like or where/how the puppy was raised. * Breeders that are not familiar with the pedigree/lineage or genetics of their litters. * Breeders that breed more than two breeds of dogs. * The Sire & Dam have No titles before or after their names Things to ask * ask to visit and see both parents if they used a stud you should still see his pictures/titles * ask to see where the dogs/puppies lived how are they raised kennel or home. * ask to see contracts, health records, Registration papers they should be AKC/American Kennel Club * What clubs do they belong to * Do they have contracts, health guarantees, has there been any genetic or health issues in this line/breed. * Health Testing OFA, Hips, Thyroid, Cerf-Eyes. What can I expect from a Reputable /Dedicated Breeders typically they only breed Champions, A Ch before the registered name means Champion in the AKC conformation ring. Reputable Breeders want to meet you and know you before you buy a puppy from them, and may ask lot's of questions, and ask for references. Reputable Breeders spend most of their time & money showing, health testing and striving to maintain/improve the breed they love it is dedication. It may be difficult to find and purchase a Standard Schnauzer Puppy. Talk to the breeders, ask questions, visit and meet their dogs if possible. Most Reputable/dedicated breeders have Web pages they are eager to show of their dogs and their accomplishments in the show or performance rings, and inform you about the breed. I would reccommend choosing a breeder that is listed on the Breeds National Breeds Club breeders site. See the links page for links to SSCA & AKC. |
| Show or Pet?
What is the difference between Pet & Show Puppy? A show puppy is chosen because the breeder believes a puppy meets or exceeds the breed standard and has the attitude and conformation to become a champion, and is also called the pick of the litter. Show puppies require a show contract and a buyer willing to invest the money in showing the puppy. There is no guarantee a show pick puppy grows up to be the best choice either. It is a gamble. Many puppies sold as pets turn out to be as nice or better then the original show pick puppy. Pet puppies are sold with mandatory spay/neuter contracts. Most Puppies are sold as pets, they are no less beautiful or intelligent because they are called pet. Typically the breeder will pick a puppy out for you based on your life style and needs. The breeder knows the dogs and has the experience to choose a puppy to fit your needs best. |
