The Standard Schnauzer is a German Breed they are the original of the three Schnauzers, they were used as all around farms dogs and to guard the carts going to market,  the perfect size not to take up to much room on the cart but protective enough to keep the theives away.
To develope this Schnauzer Black German Poodle and Gray Wolfspitz with Wired haired Pincher Stock were crossed.
Standard Schnauzers were used by the Red Cross for guard duty during World War I and also by the German Army as dispatch carriers. Their dependability made them favorites of both groups.
The Standard Schnauzer is the Original Schnauzer, the Giant & Miniature Schnauzer were bred from the Standard.

Standard Schnauzers are "people dogs".  They need to be with, around, and near their people  because they thrive on love, attention and having a job.  Consider your lifestyle and household schedule honestly ask yourself do I have time to give the love and attention a Standard Schnauzer needs and deserves.
